IDR-1 – Antimicrobial Peptides – AMP

As an antimicrobial peptide (AMP), IDR-1 acts indirectly on pathogenic bacterial infections. IDR-1 is proposed to function by upregulating monocyte cytokines (interleukins) while also reducing a pro-inflammatory cytokine. IDR-1 has been tested for its ability to aid against the rise of multi-drug resistant bacteria. In mouse models, IDR-1 is protective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens. Supply of IDR-1 can also attenuate methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)-induced pneumonia. The IDR-1 sequence is being studied as a template to hopefully generate more potent synthetic versions.
